COLORADO- Town of Winter Park to Consider Public Referendum to Publish Legal Notices On Line
The Town Council of Winter Park, Colorado intends to add a public referendum to the ballot this year which will allow publication of public notices on line, the Sky-Hi News reported January 26.
Public referenda of public notices have had substantially greater success in passing than has any legislation. Last November we reported that the citizens of the cities of Pflugerville, Texas and Lafayette Colorado overwhelmingly approved public referenda to allow their the cities to choose (newspapers or on line) how they notify the public.
Why is this small town's public referendum important?
Because in most instances these issues are decided by politicians who, while claiming to be speaking for their constituents, are actually cowering in the face of oppostion from the news organizations whose endorsements they covet.
