Marketplace:On Line Ad Spend to Surpass Print in 2012. Why are Public Notice Laws Keeping Ads in Print?

An ominously named web site Newspaper Death Watch reported today that a study done by emarketer says that on line advertising is growing faster than originally expected and will surpass print advertising in total dollars spent in 2012.

Print advertising is predicted to decline from $36 billion to $33.8 billion while on line advertising is supposed to increase from $32 billion to $39.5 billion. Newspapers' on line advertising grew 8.3% in 2011 and newspapers' print advertising fell 9.3%.

Despite these overwhelmingly obvious numbers in the marketplace, newspaper associations continue to editorialize to keep public notices in print.
